"Fight Against Terrorism through Prevention of Financing and Recruitment"

The main objective of the 2017 Advanced Seminar was to transfer advanced knowledge and understanding of the EU Criminal Law and Policy dealing with the Fight Against Terrorism through Prevention of Financing and Recruitment. The Advanced Seminar provided a venue not only for transfer of knowledge to students and young researchers, but also for an intense academic dialogue between eminent experts in the field (including policy makers), with the aim to create a sustainable network. The course lecturers addressed the topics such as: the terrorist recruitment process, legal answers to terrorism, financing of terrorism and fighting terrorism with measures against organised crime; special international court for terrorism; Alien Tort Statue Act (USA) and terrorism prevention, terrorism and ECHR, the future of fighting extremism in Russia, USA and Europe.

STUDENT PARTICIPANTS

A number of students from multiple countries in Europe and beyond actively participated in the Advanced Seminar. In order to graduate from the course and receive the 4 ECTS points awarded by the University of Zagreb, students had to give a 10-15 minute short presentations on a relevant topic. The presentations proved success and inspired insightful discussions.
